On Concrete Earth is a soft cover photobook/zine that
combines my photography and thoughts in a short reflection on the impact
of increasing urbanisation in a world where anthropogenic mass already
outweighs all living things. It aims to encourage thinking around how
sustainable and beneficial that may be, and whether such ways of living
truly align with an individual's deeply evolved instinct for natural space.
The photobook/zine is sized approximately 21cm x 15cm, and features single
and double page images over 20 pages, including the front and back cover
(24 pages in total with the title and blank liner pages). The cover is
of 350gsm weight paper so it is not flimsy and has a matt lamination for
added protection. The inner pages are thick enough so that the text and
images can be enjoyed without being affected by that on the reverse of
each page. I have personally stitched each page together.
The stitching gives each book its own unique essence, and is of two colours
to minimalise its visual impact where it can be seen on the centre pages.
A grey thread is used for the upper stitch over clouds, and black to blend
with the lower darker area. Both stitches are tied minimally with a simple
knot to lessen any distraction.
I would very much like to see On Concrete Earth available
to read freely in photobook / zine libraries. If you have any connections
or suggestions around who to contact in this regard then please do contact
me.
For a personal copy, they are available to buy, currently
priced at £5
plus delivery costs via my ebay shop for secure purchasing using a credit
